Managing the organisers
So, you’ve got a team of diligent, organised and experienced DPMs? What could possibly go wrong?! You’d think that managing project managers would be one of the easiest jobs in the world but it isn’t, at least, not all of the time.
What it means, is that you’re effectively managing your agency’s biggest project. All the skills you gained from being a PM come into play. You need to be able to balance your own workload with managing the team. And you need to know enough about what’s happening in the portfolio of projects without treading on the individual PMs toes. Sometimes you’re faced with tough decisions but that’s ok, your team can get through it.
This talk will cover some of the challenges Ian has faced as a manager of DPMs and through his experiences will provide practical advice for both team members and team leaders alike.
Ian is Programme Director at Creative Jar, a digital agency based in the Thames Valley. With a background in client-side development and marketing he has over 10 years’ experience in digital agency project and programme management. During his career he has worked on multi-lingual CMS builds as well as eCommerce and campaign sites for some well-known brands.
With a love for making things work and learning new skills, Ian enjoys the challenges that the evolving digital landscape throws up on daily basis. As a regular contributor to the local DPM community he’s a firm believer that you get out what you put in.
